Terms of service

Who we are

Lexicue is run by Robert Meyer trading as Lexicue, based in England, United Kingdom. You can reach us at support@lexicue.com. By using Lexicue you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.

Who can use it

Anyone can play. Children under 13 can only use Lexicue if a parent or guardian sets up the account for them and agrees to these terms on their behalf.

By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 13, or that you are a parent or guardian setting up the account for your child and accepting these terms for them.

Beta

Lexicue is in beta. While it is, features may change, appear or be removed, and we may reset accounts, progress, decks and free credits before full launch. Where we can, we'll tell you in the app before a reset. We won't take away anything you've paid for without a refund.

Your account

  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
  • Pick a nickname that doesn't pretend to be someone else and isn't rude.
  • We may suspend or close an account if we reasonably believe it has broken these terms, if the law requires it, or if it's needed to protect other players or Lexicue. Where we can, we'll tell you why.
  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

Using Lexicue fairly

You must not:

  • try to get into accounts, data or parts of Lexicue that aren't yours;
  • interfere with Lexicue or overload it, for example with bots or automated scripts;
  • cheat on leaderboards, leagues or votes, or misuse credits;
  • copy or reverse engineer Lexicue's software, except where the law allows it;
  • use Lexicue for anything unlawful.

What you make

You keep your rights to what you type. When you share a deck, path or other content, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, adapt (for example, resize or reformat), display and make it available to other players, and to feature it within and when promoting Lexicue. This licence continues after you delete your account, so other players can keep playing what you shared.

When you make or share something, you confirm that:

  • you have the right to use what you type, and
  • it doesn't break anyone else's copyright, trade mark or other rights.

Don't make or share anything that:

  • is illegal, hateful, sexual, violent or bullying;
  • copies someone else's work or breaks their rights;
  • includes someone's personal details.

The rules are stricter for kids' decks: they're checked before other children can see them. We can hide or remove content that breaks these rules, and we may close the accounts of players who repeatedly share content that breaks other people's rights.

Copyright and other concerns

If you believe something on Lexicue breaks your copyright or other rights, or is harmful, tell us through the Copyright & content page or email support@lexicue.com. That page explains what to include and how we handle it. We may hide content while we look into a concern. If you think something of yours was removed by mistake, email us and we'll look again.

Our content and brand

The Lexicue name, logo, software, design, artwork and the content we make belong to us or the people who license it to us. You may use Lexicue for your own learning and fun, and share links to it, but you may not copy or reuse it for other purposes without our permission.

Some decks and paths mention books, films, games, brands or characters owned by others. We name them only to say what a deck is about. This doesn't mean their owners are connected with, sponsor or endorse Lexicue.

AI-made content

Lexicue uses AI to help write cards, check facts and draw pictures. We check what it makes, but we can't promise every card is accurate, complete or suitable for every purpose. Please check anything important elsewhere before relying on it, and don't rely on Lexicue for professional advice, such as medical or legal advice. If you spot a mistake, use the report button on the card.

Lexicue Plus and top-ups

  • Prices are shown in pounds and include any tax.
  • Plus renews every month or every year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the billing portal, and Plus runs to the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Top-ups add credits once. Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred.
  • Your right to cancel: UK law usually gives you 14 days to change your mind about digital content. When you buy Plus or a top-up, you ask us to start straight away, and you agree that you lose this right once you've started using it. If you haven't used it, email us within 14 days for a refund.
  • Apart from this, and your legal rights if something we supply is faulty, refunds aren't normally available once you've started using Plus or a top-up. If you delete your account, Plus stops at once and the rest of the period isn't refunded.
  • We'll give you notice before a price change affects your subscription, so you can cancel first.

Changes to Lexicue

We're always improving Lexicue, so features may change or stop. We provide Lexicue as it is and can't promise it will always be available or free of mistakes.

Our responsibility to you

We're responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not taking reasonable care. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law says it can't be limited, or affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top. For a big change, we'll tell you in the app first.

The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
